South Lake Schools Reopening Plan

South Lake Schools is committed to meeting the instructional needs of our students while maintaining a safe environment in which children can learn. With these priorities in mind, we present below the South Lake Schools plan for reopening schools in the 2020 - 21 school year. The South Lake Schools Board of Education has approved the Reopen, Reimagine, Reengage Plan for the 2020 - 21 school year. However, the Board has also decided that ALL students will begin the year virtually and the Board will assess reopening at a special meeting on September 23rd, 2020. Please read below for more information regarding the reopening plan for South Lake Schools and how parents can select from our face-to-face and virtual options for students.

Health Guidance for Schools

South Lake School Board Meeting - August 19, 2020
 
Below is a recording of the South Lake Schools Board of Education Meeting held on August 19, 2020. The Board discusses the reopening of school for the 2020 - 21 school year. The Board ultimately decided to adopt the proposed Reopen, Reimagine, Reengage Plan proposed by the South Lake Reopening Committee, but also decided that ALL students would begin the school year remotely. The Board will meet on September 23, 2020 to evaluate the current safety needs in the community and determine a date for students to attend school in person.

Elementary Q&A
 
I want my child to attend school face-to-face, what do I need to do?
 
If you want your child to attend school face-to-face and your child is already registered in South Lake Schools, you do not need to do anything. If your child is not yet registered in South Lake, please visit https://www.solake.org/enroll/ to begin the enrollment process. If your child is entering grades K - 2, he or she will attend Avalon Elementary School. If your child is entering grades 3 - 5, he or she will attend Elmwood Elementary School. If your child will be participating in preschool, he or she will attend Koepsell Elementary. Your child's school will communicate with you regarding placement and logistical matters relating to the school. Please be aware that at this time the South Lake Board of Education has decided that ALL students will begin the school year in a virtual environment and will assess a date for face-to-face instruction at a special board meeting on September 23rd, 2020. 
 
I want my child to attend school virtually through the South Lake Digital Academy, what do I need to do?
 
If you want your child to attend the South Lake Digital Academy, please visit the webpage for the South Lake Digital Academy located at https://www.solake.org/SLDA/ . There you can read more information about the academy and complete the online registration for to secure your child's spot in the program. Application Closes at 3:00 p.m. on August 28th, 2020. Please note that the South Lake Digital Academy is for parents who want their student(s) to receive their education virtually for at least one semester (1st Semester would end on January 29th, 2020).

I want my secondary child to attend school in the hybrid model, what do I need to do?
 
If you want your child to attend school face-to-face in the hybrid model and your child is already registered in South Lake Schools, you do not need to do anything. If your child is not yet registered in South Lake, please visit https://www.solake.org/enroll/ to begin the enrollment process. Please be aware that at this time the South Lake Board of Education has decided that ALL students will begin the school year in a virtual environment and will assess a date for face-to-face instruction at a special board meeting on September 23rd, 2020.
 
I want my child to attend school in a completely virtual model, what do I need to do?
 
If you would like to request that your secondary school age child to attend school using the all virtual option, you will need to complete the application form found below.
 
 
I want my child to attend school completely face-to-face when it becomes available, what do I need to do?
 
If your student has a need to be receive instruction in a completely face-to-face environment, you can apply for your child to attend school every day. These applications will be reviewed by the building administration and approved based upon keeping all students in a safe environment and the instructional or social/emotional needs of the child. The application to attend school in a completely face-to-face environment is below. Please be aware that at this time the South Lake Board of Education has decided that ALL students will begin the school year in a virtual environment and will assess a date for face-to-face instruction at a special board meeting on September 23rd, 2020.
