your why so ask yourself how do you make this world a better place what do you want your purpose to be what sort of impact do you want to make Shirley this is something you cannot Here and Now however I encourage you all at some point after the day to reflect on your why write it down put it in your phone share it with your family but whatever you do refer do it often and allow that to be the motivation to stay focused on your goals some of you are going to be attending universities community colleges a trade school military and perhaps some of you are devising your plan or your why we all have different wise we all have different goals but students whatever path you choose find and have the confidence that you have the faith to meet your future head on and you know that hard work and determination will lead to great things everyone on this field tonight is proof positive that the choices we make dictate the life we lead go out there and rise above the negative things that may be going on and achieve your why this world this world needs the class of 2021 there are way too many negatives that we hear about on social media on the news and in our daily life and I really hate to place this burden on all of you to make this world a better place but I know you can do it I know you can whatever you do go at it hard and expect that you are going to be change to make this world a better place hard work will pay off I believe Nicki Minaj has the best when she says that quote such a heavy burden has been placed upon me when you go hard your knees become Yankee Stadium will be filled with Jay-Z and Kanye I came to win to fight to conquer to thrive I came to win to survive to prosper to rise to fly info again work hard to achieve your why don't let anyone stand in your way think of your class motto from the late great black panther he said the struggles along the way are only men to shave your purpose and I want you to remember that now some of you I don't know maybe have maybe seen the musical Hamilton if not my ten-year-old daughter how play recommends it I've seen it a thousand times story about Alexander Hamilton the story that many would never read from a history book but Hamilton who grew up an immigrant in orphan defied many odds the theme of Hamilton is that education hard work learning and never giving up can change someone's life circumstance no matter how difficult not only does it teach these lessons but it also shows the importance of social justice and suggest that anyone no matter who they are can change the world after all he was a ten-dollar Founding Father without a father who got a lot farther by working a lot harder by being a lot smarter by being a self-starter class of 2021 you are in control of your future true you cannot control some things around you actually there's a lot of things you cannot control as we witnessed these past 14 months but we can control is ourselves you and only you are in charge of your future be intentional put thought into your life decisions and you think long-term think about where you want to be in a few years and the steps you must to achieve this and have the determination that you can do it meet your responsibilities had on ask for help when you need it but your responsibilities are yours I know you can as the late great Kobe Bryant once said if you ever ever have to place a bet in life that on yourself you can't go wrong another repeat of repeated phrase from Hamilton is the million things I haven't done but just you wait there's a million things I haven't done but just you way think about that and remind yourself of the fact that your future is filled with potential High School although right now I've been one of the most important things in your life it's actually only your foundation you have a million things that you have not done yet set your goals focus on the footprint that you want to make in this have faith in your ability and you know that you will have the power to achieve great things they also say I'm not throwing away my shot they say it all the time I'm not throwing away my shot student you have an amazing opportunity ahead of you with hard work goal-setting and persistence you can achieve anything don't throw away your shot make the most of every opportunity that is presented to you do the things you love with anything you do give you're all never ever waste your shop someone that is not wasted her shot is our very first female African American vice-president, Harris decades ago decades ago the thought of having a minority female serve as vice president was just not possible years ago the status quo with question and this past November things change I'll regardless purpose of your political affiliation affiliation it is undeniable that something that was once Dean Farfetch'd is now a reality if vice president Harris did not stay persistent and have a definite why overcome barriers witchy and she did not throw away her shot would she be where she is we know that that is not possible during an interview I heard to make the comment that really resonated with me and she said and I quote you're going to walk into many rooms in your life and your career were you may be the only one who looks like you or has the same experiences you have but you remember it when you are in those rooms You Are Not Alone you are in that room with you applauding you on and cheering your voice and just being proud of you so use that voice and be strong and quote clearly she had a y kept her head up she kept working for that why and she was successful did she fail at times of course but she kept going I say this in every speech to all my graduates do not let failure get in the way of your why never let failure get in the way you will fail at things it's okay we all do it the greatest basketball player that ever played the game Michael Jordan he's got all the staff got all the Championships the greatest player to ever play the game one thing you might not know about Michael Jordan is he missed 9000 shots in his career 9000 he lost 300 games a lot of games he lost 26 times he had the ball and took the game with and he missed he missed did he let that get him down now he knew that failure is just part of life in order to be successful you need to keep going I need to go hard and he knew that failure was going to happen I heard Denzel Washington say in his speech a couple years ago that I I really loved and he said to a bunch of graduate I got news for all of you you're going to fail at some things some of you are going to fail so badly you are going to embarrass yourself it is okay embracing and quote so once again I challenge the class of 2021 to find you absolutely nothing get in your way this day is always a touch emotional for the staff and myself we feel like parents having to let go every one of you at times felt like our own children we have grown together learned laughed and even made it through a global pandemic just like your parents each and everyone of you where r y you are why we do this every single day we might not have seemed like it when we were quote doing too much and I can't tell you how many times I've heard that was doing too much and just a thing for parents out there you ever hear you're doing too much it means you're doing your job I always took it as a compliment so we care and love all of you we're going to miss your smiling faces and quite frankly we missed your smiling faces this year when you refuse to show your face on the computer screen that's all right we are excited to see what the future holds for you again this world needs all of you to achieve your purpose your dreams and your why with all this negativity around us make this world a better place I know you can do it just remember whatever you do put your hard work put your Intuit work hard help each other be a good person tell the truth Choose Love over hate and ignore ignore anyone that doubt you ignore anyone that down. and don't let anything get in the way of your dreams in your why so I'm going to leave you here with words tonight for another Musical that me and my wife know by heart again because of my ten-year-old daughter watches it all the time of the class of 2021 and I quote I want to change it up a little bit but you'll figure it out when the sharpest words want to cut you down we're going to send we're going to drown them out you are brave you are bruised you are who you are meant to be this is you so look out world cuz here they come they're marching on to the beat of a drum they're not scared to be seen they make no apologies this is them the class of 2021 once again I congratulate all of you for being here at this moment thank you very much at this time I would like to call up mr. Ted Von help minor good evening everyone beautiful night isn't it it's wonderful to be outside it's just great evening again my name is Kevin help Meyer in the proud superintendent of Southlake schools before we bring forward our student speaker I want to take this moment to congratulate each of our 123 graduates hard-working to do is put into your education is a model to all of our Southlake students I wish each of you the best and ask that you never forget your time here is Cavs you made Southlake special so now it's your chance to make the world special in your own way also want to thank our support staff or administrators school board members all of our families and our teachers for all they've done for a student's the past 13 years this past year was a challenge forever but these individuals never gave up on our students they never gave up on your children they work harder than ever to ensure that all of our graduates to walk across the stage this evening so tonight our students Baker is a longtime Cavalier and I'd ask that Gabriella shepsky come to the podium please just a little bit about Gabrielle before she speaks she's Target in Southlake at Elmwood Elementary and leave Southlake is an accomplished Cavalier she's graduating this evening with a GPA of 4.008 seven which yes that puts her at 3rd and in the graduating class of 2021 Gabrielle's achievements at South Lake High School we're not just limited to academics alone she was inducted into the National Honor Society or junior year and competed on the tennis team 4 years Gabrielle success is a cab the past four years is only the beginning for her this fall she'll attend Ferris State University begin working on her bachelor's degree in criminal justice with the ultimate goal of one day working as a hummus Detective at this time I'd like to welcome our student speaker Gabrielle Al shefsky good evening seniors family and staff my name is Gabriela scheske and I want to thank all of you for joining us here tonight to celebrate all the hard work in the class of 2021 has put into being here today I'll seniors graduation pretty crazy thing to think that we made it we experienced it through a pandemic from wearing a mask in school to look at the icons on the team screen we've been through so much this past year let alone the past four years of high school this has to leave a big mark on history of the school we've had two hands and minds her teachers and staff helped us along the way but now it's our turn break free and find our future for ourselves in the words of Elton John it's the circle of life and it moves us all through Despair and hope through faith and love till we find a place on the path and line we're taking two steps out into the world the world of the unknown the world of differences and the world we are free to make changes for our own selves you decide what happens for yourself you decide you will be and you decide the path that you will embark on it maybe a rock covered path with a raging river through it or a flowered covered path with the sun shining down but no matter what we will end up at the successes that we dream for ourselves in 50 years you can look back upon and remember all that we've been through those who have been by her side and the teachers we have made jokes with The Memories We have made with those we sat next to at the lunch table or those who have passed in the hallway the friends we've made the friends we may have lost and those things will leave a mark on our lives its prey times but we did it we graduated after you walk out those doors you may boast by. All that you've done in high school but as the great Jedi Luke Skywalker once said no one's ever really gone always remember who you were as a high-schooler remember the mark you left and your teachers your friends and your family because they will always remember you remember the lessons they taught you because without that we would not be here today thank them and tell him how influential they were to you with that and said I want to thank all those who had any part in our lives and stood by our size help is where we are now we appreciate everything you've done for us now congratulations class of 2021 I want you to go get your hiking shoes and find your Life Path because we have a wild Journey at this time I would like to reduce South Lake High School's valedictorian cuz she come on up here Miss Jennifer Dupuis also with Robert and Kathleen Dupuis please come on out step out here onto the grass or I'm sorry on to the what do you call it the gravel go gravel turf come out and let everyone see you and remain standing out there I say some good things about your daughter let's get those parents around of Applause there they are so it is with great honor that I stand Here by how are you today to introduce South Lake High School's valedictorian Jennifer Dupuis do before I give her the mic when I say a couple good things about her to start you can probably assume that to become the valedictorian one must be super hard working highly intelligent a four-year honor roll student and very goal-oriented will that is true Jennifer is all those things but she is much more when asking previous teachers about Jennifer they shared about not only her unwavering work ethic what her what a great personality her excellent character and how she has shows this care on a daily basis all of her past teacher said she was very funny personable and just one of those students that exudes positivity one of her previous Middle School teachers Mr malburg said and I quote I coaxed her my first year at Southlake then I had the pleasure of teaching her in 8th grade she was a goofball but she was the perfect Middle School then I had the pleasure of teaching her in 8th grade she was again similar other teachers commented about her great sense of humor and that she always an amazing ability to switch from giggling to extreme focus in a second being able to balance academics and socializing in school can be a challenge but she did and speaking of a balance Jennifer also when Ashley she played soccer on South Lake High School and she served as the captain of the team also outside the classroom Jennifer is a member of student council and National Honor Society she has a love art and its place both first and second place in the Lake Sinclair art program so needless to say Jennifer is well-rounded when Jennifer's names brought up here are some of the common words that I have heard responsible determine kindness Integrity grit humble helpful and yes a wolverine Jennifer will be attending University of Michigan Ann Arbor this fall currently she holds a 4.085 grade point average at something she will be going to the University of Michigan to study her passion and astronomy this young woman has a bright future and I think the doctor principato her former math teacher songs about bass and she says and I quote Jennifer is an exceptional student she strives to do more than simply completing her work she aims to truly understand it she is disciplined and driven to be successful but she also free a good sense of humor those habits have brought her here on stage tonight and they were carry with her in the future and quavo so all of these things are true earning a spot here is an incredible task Jennifer was very humbled when I asked her about this she really give me much information he was kind of shy about it she didn't brag but she would like to thank her teachers here at Southlake he was thankful for all of them she also wanted to thank her mom and her dad and her sister Mary certainly she is here today because of the love and support of her family that they provided so is further Ado I would like to probably introduce you to South Lake High School's valedictorian Jennifer Dupuis good evening my name is Jennifer Dupuis and I would like to start off with welcoming all the family members staff Administration and board members that have joined us in our celebration of South Lakes graduating class of 2021 when you hear someone say the words outer space what do you think of some may think of the billions of stars in the sky While others may think of an endless Darkness although these would both be the only difference between the two is what was used to come up with what perspective was used to come up with an answer some may choose to focus on the darkness but others focus on the surrounding light thinking back to our experience in high school there were many times when we could have chosen to only see Darkness we as a class seem to have experienced all the challenges a person could face in 4 years from the loss of students and staff to a pandemic shutting down the whole world it often seemed like it would be easier to let our eyes rest and adjust in the dark then to have them look up and be strained in the light but we didn't want to settle for easy we didn't want to settle at all instead we changed our perspective and decided to focus on the light for with light came hope love and French well Darkness only brought sorrow and loneliness although we've had to face this decision between light and dark many times we always knew the right choice to make no matter how difficult it would be to get this choice is what made us stay together as not only a class but as friends we have experienced a significant amount of loss and high school but each time we chose to look at the stars and embracing weather in the light we've been able to rise above the darkness that was constantly thrown at us and that takes an immense amount of strength every single one of us has created and the same strength in ourselves as the our strength through the Stars Shone brighter and it made it just a little bit easier to fight against the darkness each time it came in our Direction even as we go on our separate path I hope you all stay connected to that light and use it to guide yourself and others through anything you encounter in the future congratulations class of 2021 I hope all the stars in your Sky never fail to shine brightly thank you mr. Guzman do you want to bring Morgan's out on the stage there is a song it's called When I See You Again by Wiz Khalifa and it says and I quote how can we not talk about family when family is all we got and because I have said South Lake High School is like a fan is an extended family for most of us so I would like to take a moment to honor a student who was taken taken away from us way too soon Nolan Morgan who have been walking across this here this evening is without a doubt with us in spirit no one will always be remembered for his contagious smile funny sense of humor and kindness that he showed to everyone don't be half of South Lake High School we would like to honor Nolan by presenting his parents mr. and mrs. Morgan as they walked across the stage to receive a South Lake High school diploma honorary diploma thank you now I'd like to congratulate our top 10 when I call your name please come onto the stage and receive your plan I'm up one by one when I also call the students name I will call their parents name and again please step onto the field while you're while your daughter or your son's name is being called Sophie we'll start with number 10 leasia Wells what evanie Turner and Gary Wells come out to the gravel and you can stay out on the gravel while I introduce everyone once again leasia Wells has our number 10 she receive a gray point average of 3.83 for 9 she will be attending Florida A&M University and she will study graphic design congratulations leisure parent you can stay out number nine now you custard please come on up to the stage her parents Maya Weeks and Demetrius custard please come on out there they are not right now use number 9 she had a grade point average of 3.0 569 she will be attending Macomb Community College and she will pursue her dreams and nursing congratulations. Catherine Grimes for dr.
