Latchkey
The Elementary Latchkey Program continues to be available for students enrolled in grades K-2 at Avalon Elementary and students enrolled in grades 3-5 at Elmwood Elementary. The program will begin on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. Morning sessions begin at 7:00am and run until school begins. Afternoon sessions begin after dismissal and run until no later than 6:00pm. Registration packets can be obtained at Avalon and Elmwood Elementary during the Registration Events on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025.
Please note that we will not be providing latchkey-specific transportation from Elmwood to Avalon. Students must attend latchkey in the building in which they attend school.
If you need to register for Latchkey, please email the Latchkey Supervisor at the building that your child attends for an appointment. Please bring your child's student number with you. We prefer that the $40 non-refundable registration fee be paid online through eFunds, but we will accept cash if needed.

When you arrive to register, ALL unpaid latchkey balances from the previous school year(s) MUST be paid in full before you will be permitted to complete Latchkey registration paperwork for school year 25-26. We will have iPads available for you to make payments through eFunds, if needed.
Please note: If you are unable to register for the Elementary Latchkey Program but require before- or after- care for your child, you will need to make your own arrangements for child care. The main offices of the elementary buildings CLOSE 15 minutes after dismissal. Students will not be permitted to stay in the main office after it closes as there are no staff available to stay with them. In addition, students are not permitted to attend Latchkey without the required licensing paperwork – this could put our child care license at risk! If you require financial assistance to pay your outstanding balance or believe you may need assistance to pay for Latchkey during the school year, please contact the Special Services Department at 586-435-1610 or [email protected].
Koepsell Early Childhood Center GSRP Latchkey Program
We are so excited to be able to offer both AM and PM Latchkey for GSRP students at Koepsell Early Childhood Center this school year. The program will begin on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. Morning sessions begin at 7:00am and run until school begins at 8:00am. Afternoon sessions begin after dismissal at 3:00pm and run until no later than 6:00pm. Registration packets can be obtained at Koepsell Early Childhood Center.

Latchkey Registration Fees
There is a non-refundable registration fee of $40.00 per child. The $40.00 registration fee can be paid on the e-Funds site by choosing Optional Fees and then entering the student’s last name and student ID number. If your student(s) participated in the Summer Latchkey program, your $40.00 fee for the summer carries over in to the new school year; you do not need to pay it again. However, you will need to complete a new Registration Packet, including the Child Information Record, at one of the Registration Events listed above.
Latchkey Hourly Rates
In addition, our hourly rate is changing. In the past, we charged $4.50 per hour (billed by the minute) for the first child in a family group and $3.10 per hour (billed by the minute) for each sibling in a family group. Beginning this Fall, we will be charging $5.00 per hour (billed in 15 minute increments) for the first child in a family group and $4.00 per hour (billed in 15 minute increments) for each sibling in a family group.
Students registered in the GSRP and Elementary Latchkey programs must be picked up by their parent/guardian by 6:00 PM. If, for any reason, a parent/guardian is delayed and cannot reach the school by 6:00 PM, a call must be made to the Latchkey Supervisor. A late pick-up rate will be assigned at the rate of $11.55 per hour for each child, for the entire afternoon. If by 6:30 PM, the parent/guardian has not called with alternative arrangements, no other authorized adult has arrived, and neither the parent/guardian nor other authorized adult can be contacted by telephone, the police will be called.
