South Lake Schools
Since 1898, South Lake Schools has continued it dedication to academic excellence and providing K-12 students real education opportunities for the real world. South Lake Schools currently has three elementary buildings (Avalon Elementary, Elmwood Elementary, and Koepsell Education Center), one middle school (South Lake Middle School), and one high school (South Lake High School) that serve the communities of St. Clair Shores, Eastpointe, and the Village of Grosse Pointe Shores, a Michigan City.
Our commitment to academic excellence and high achievement are cornerstone to the success of South Lake Schools. Our students benefit from the personalized, supportive relationships developed through our small size. Our students are not just numbers; teachers engage with each student and present the material on a personal level. Our experienced teachers lead dynamic classes that are responsive to the individualized needs of each student. Through demonstrated merit and superior academic results, our students lead excellence and success at every step of their education.
A Message from Our Superintendent
The phrase, “It takes a village to raise a child,” may not have the same impact on us as when we first heard it, but examples of its accuracy are evident all around us. The phrase translates in our profession to, “It takes collaboration and team work to ensure that all students are provided with the support and care needed to grow into informed, contributing adult citizens.” That is why our partnerships and collaborations with our local organizations are so vital to our South Lake Schools’ community and families.
Reflecting on this, I think back to the outcome of the Senior-to-Senior day of fun hosted by the St. Clair Shores Senior Center for Active Adults in which one of the senior citizens was so moved by a South Lake senior’s personal story that she took us aside and told us to let her know if he needed anything as he moved forward to college. She had only spent a few hours with this student, but in that time they made a connection that might never have occurred in the course of normal daily living.
