The fourth and fifth grade students of the Accelerated Multi-Age at Elmwood Elementary recently completed a culminating project in which they planned, designed, and constructed modern skyscrapers to create “Elmwood City”. Students were responsible for finding the area, volume, surface area, and square footage of the buildings as well as researching building amenities and eco-friendly alternatives to promote “Green” buildings. Finally, each student tabulated the final cost of the building, including a 5% interest loan from the “Elmwood Bank” and projected potential profits based on “real-world” scenarios.
