yep all right yep it sounded really good thank you Middle School band you guys were great we're going to give you guys a couple minutes to uh gather your stuff and you want though isn't something like the local paper Daddy he's prepared he's prepared he's prepared it could be in the Rocky Mountains okay I'm gonna get on the consent agenda we got kind of a long night try to get through everything um okay the consent agenda um is comprised of approval of the agenda for today's meeting approval of minutes from the regular meeting of December 17th 2025 checks written December 2025 general fund 470555746 activity fund 1312 2024 Bond 9262256 Zero from the 2025 Bond cafeteria fund 8853.28 zero for the latch key refund syncing fund 19,688.85 District credit card 17,506.73 for a total of 610,540.88 we have 4 um attorney invoices uh the first is from Clarks Hill for General in the amount of $1,499 second also Clarks Hill for custodial contract in the amount of 4,000 $1.50 third Miller Field Paddock and stone PLC for General in the amount of 864 dollars excuse me worth invoices from Miller Johnson for labor and employment in the amount of 3,955 these of 10,639.50 are brought today uh before the war for Board of Education approval is recommended for the following minutes of the regular meeting of December 17th 2025 and checks for December 2025 totaling 610,000 54088 do I have them can I get a motion please December 17th 110,000 5 88 a motion by Mr Lomi can I have a second second by Mr P any questions or comments all those in favor I any opposed motion carries 70 uh next up would be the high school update but I do not see Mardela to move on comments any yellow yellow cards move right into the business uh meeting um superintendent Hitler good evening everyone I just have an informational item I just to declare January a school board recognition month January is School Board recognition month in South Lake Schools probably joins districts across Michigan and thanking our board of education for their steadfast dedication to our students staff and community at a time when public education continues to navigate unprecedented challenges and Rapid change our board members have remained committed to stability transparency and doing what is best for children well January gives us a special opportunity to highlight their service we recognize that their work extends far beyond a single month throughout the entire year our board members devote countless hours to thoughtful governance care decision making and advocacy on behalf of every child in South Lake as we look ahead to the opportunities and challenges of 2026 their leadership will continue to play a crucial role and advancing student achievement in our schools we are grateful to these dedicated public servants who provide vision for academic programs ensure responsible stewardship of District resources and support safe and vibrant learning environments for commitment to public education reflects the very best of community leadership thank you South Lake Schools Board of Education members for all you do for our students and our community and if you see just a token of our appreciation everybody we a certificate because you can never have too many certificate right I'm sure that'll be on everybody's refrigerator tomorrow but if you look we got uh everybody at Tumblr uh it's a South Lake Tumblr we wanted to try to get you something that you know we hopefully that you can use you know on a regular basis so something news every day so just a small token to thank you for all that you do for for our schools for our students and our community thank you thank you Mr on Hitler next up is the curriculum and instruction report Mr Farah good evening I have 3 action items and 2 informational items this evening first action items the schools of choice applications for the 2026 27 school year attachment a South Lake School seeks approval to accept schools of choice applications for the 2026 27 school year beginning of the kindergarten enrollment open house on March 5th 20126 the application window will open on Thursday March 5th 2026 and closed on Tuesday August 24th 1 at 2026 at 3 p.m. unloaded openings would be offered for students in kindergarten through 12th grade for our residents of mome County applications will be available online at the board of education office or by contacting Jennifer Bogart at 586 4351640 approval is requested to accept unlimited schools of choice applications for the home County residents and grades K through 12 at the 2026 2027 school year we have a request to accept unlimited schools the choice applications from from a comb County residents grades K through 12 for the 26th 27th school year for the motion a motion by Miss McGee for a second by Miss pomod any questions or comments all those in favor I motion carries 70 second item is approval of structured cabling at the afield attachment B currently there's no wired network access of the afield for HVAC control security cameras or for the use of other internet services with the upcoming replacement of the parking was requested the district investigate the possibility to connect in a field with fiery cabling the district released an RP for structured cabling and is applied for e-rate funding to help the cost the district received 1 bid from the RFP from fyro linked Incorporated totaling 21 95847 the district qualifies for a 90 rate bringing the district's portion of the project to 2195.85 approval of a contract with fiberlink Incorporated to install 5 caveling between the administration building and the afield for a whole of 21,958.47 cents as request so we have a um a request to approve contract for um Fiverr cabling between the admin building and the afield do I have a motion so did the board approve a contract with fiberlink Inc to install fiber cabling between the admin building and a field for a total of 21,000 95047 motion by m salomi can I have a second second by Miss weather speed any questions or comments I I have a general question what does this give us out at the a field that we don't have today currently the only we have 2 Wireless Bridges but they're pretty Limited in bandwidth this will allow us to add more security cameras out there that allow us to add um get a better wi-fi out of the Press Box this won't go all the way to the Brass box we'll have 1 set of fiber that will go to the ticket booth once the fiber that I'm going to locker room uh but then we'd be able to maintain our HVAC access controls alarm panels without going you know a wire bridge that kind of get any other questions accounts all those in favor motion carries 7 Z another 3 approval of Network electronics access points attachment C The District's access points are over 7 years old and need replacement the district released an RFP in November 2026 to replace all access points in the district and receive sleep in after evaluating the beds we recommending the board approve a contract with Delta networks to procure and install access points throughout the district for a total of 202,000,149.13 the account for this project is 85% bringing the district portion of the project to 30,322.37 please notice the bid from Delta was the least expensive and the access points of the same brand as the network switches that were installed over the summer of 2025 approval of contract with Delta networks to procure and install access points for a total of 202,149.13 is requested a request to approve contract for um for access points can I have a motion to pass a motion by Miss Williams 1 second Salon any questions or comments no this has nothing to do with that that's more about that's a security feature that we implemented because um many of our student accounts were being hacked and so we've implemented a requirement that they have multifactor they authenticate that they are who they are when they're off of our Network points are basically just Wi-Fi yep that that white thing up on the ceiling right there would be replaced with a purple thing it's yeah so I had a motion by Miss Williams in the second by Miss sman Paul is in favor motion carries 7 Z all right then I have 2 informational items the first is just uh the aforementioned kindergarten enrollment event can I get an enrollment event will take place on Thursday March 5th 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Avalon Elementary School is a copy to advertisement that will be published in the shores Sentinel and eastsider highlighting the event and then the second information item is the annual education report the letters are attachment e in your report the issue Department of Education is provided to schools with a 24 2024 25 School District data required in the annual education reports the report are going to be available on our website and we'll also be available each School in the main office so I'll be posting those um after and that is it thank you next up we have our business report the psaltery good evening everyone I also have 3 action items the first is approval book number 10 Renovations as per their Pack 2 cross control book number 10 was reviewed and approved by the South Lake School business office the district construction manager McCarthy and spend the architect with them Associates for pavement this request is for Avalon Elwood renovation was documenting the house control book number 10 and the information contained within the cost control group reflects the work completed the December 1725 the paper for the Avalon Elwood Renovations construct contractors will be processed through the 2025 construction fund it is recommended that billing total total Billings totaling 77,863.50 cents at detailing cost control program with him to request um for payment of cost control book number 10 I have a motion please I move that the board approved the uh billing totaling 707,863.50 the detailed e cost control book number 10 I have a motion by mowing second stuck in by Miss Williams any questions or comments all those in favor iOS motion carries 6 to 1 thank you approval actually item number 2 approval of payment of renovations to South Lake Middle School this is the impact number 3 cost control group number 7 the South Lake Middle School Renovations bid pay number 3 cost control book number 7 was reviewed and approved Again by South Lakes business office positions construction manager McCarthy and Smith and architect and Associates for payment the request for South Lake Middle School renovation and documented in fact number 3 cost control book number 7 uh contained in within the cost control book reflects the work completed through December 17th again 2025 the paper for South Lake Middle School Renovations contractors will be processing the 25 construction fund it is recommended for them that billing totally 7500862 cents details and cost control group number 7 is the payment the request um billing for cost control book number 7 be approved I have a motion please 7,580 the motion by Miss Williams 1 second any questions or comments so these organizations so you talking about what happened today or so good point and great question we actually had some discussions on that 1 there's a couple issues that are in play in this 1 the first to see to reach out to our insurance company to see this and insurance claim and that's where I first expectations are and as these monies have been approved for by this board for construction purposes that was already that would possibly come with you're welcome so um um just for reference and I'll share this again um in each of the cost report is a billing summary page is usually around about page 10 gives you extensive detail of what we're spending on and all of these amounts would have been approved so you would get a contract song once we've uh selected vendors actual approval of that you authorize that and then we start depleting that project that project total and so these are against what was already approved you're very welcome any other questions come follow us in favor hi pushing carries 6 to 1 final um action this is acceptance of the 2425 annual audit as well as the single audit as per attachment seat Daniela has been prepared by the auditing firm Raymond Robertson the LLC this is the fifth year is actually the sixth year that Raymond serve this district auditor the annual audit consists of the following 3 reports independent Auditors uh communication letter the financial statements and the single audit compliance report South Lake has received an unqualified or clean from the Auditors and I qualified or clean opinion is the best designation or organization can receive we're requesting acceptance of the 2425 annual audit single audit and Communications letter to governance and is recommended for people is recommended so we have a request uh to approve the 2024 2025 annual audit I have a motion please I move that the board except the 242 annual audit single audit and communication letter to governors the motion by Miss somi second second is Liberty any questions or comments all those in favor motion carries 7 thank you thank you for the presentation that we got before this meeting that was very helpful next up we have a um closed session for Personnel issue so to do that um I'll need to do I'll need a motion to go into closed session motion by Miss Lomi do I second second second by Miss Liberty and I need do a roll call vote so uh Miss Muhammad to go into closed session yeah this Mother's Day yes Liberty yes Miss McGee yes Miss Williams salomi yeah and I am also yes so motion carries 70 we will go into closed session and we'll be back shortly we're going to do uh we'll do members of School Board administrators and community members my name is Sarah hedar and I am here representing care of South Eastern Michigan um for those that don't know we are a nonprofit organization located in Roseville um and then uh we try to build um Healthy Communities through Macon County our mission is to strengthen families and build healthier communities to move friendship education Support Services um we are funded by mome County Community Mental Health and we provide a variety of substance use prevention programs within schools and communities across the county um I did give some folders here in the folders you'll see that there's some programming it's actually um kindergarten through 12th grade so we do a lot of free programming so it's completely free um at Carrara Southeastern Michigan we believe that prevention begins with connection connection to resources to education and most importantly to 1 another our prevention programs focus on helping young people develop the skills that they need to make healthy informed choices and build resilience in the face of challenges we work closely closely with schools community coalitions and local organizations to provide tools and education that supports students well-being and reduced risk factors related to substance use and mental health some of the prevention programs we offer in schools include life skills which focuses on building decision making communication refusal skills and too good which promotes goal setting and positive coping strategies we also offer Vape use prevention and marijuana use prevention programs which are designed as educational and restorative alternatives to suspension these programs give the students opportunity to learn about the impacts of substance use develop healthier coping strategies to re-engage in positive School Behavior without the long-term consequences of clearing action um in addition to classroom based programming we collaborate with several Community coalitions throughout the home County I actually represent snap which is um the shores Network for action and prevention um so we are a coalition here in St Clair Shores um we do meet on the first Thursday of each month at Senator hotel's office and we're not sure where that's located at in between 8 and 9 Mile Road um we are you know trying to get out and make obviously a difference in the community but we do a lot with substance use prevention as I mentioned in the mental health as well um on a personal note I I was a member of the Sinker Source uh Community for a little over 20 years um my daughter's actually a tendency Joan of Arc from um preschool through 8th grade I have an eighth grader right now she's gonna be going to Virginia on the fall but um so I do have a vested interest in the community um I can tell you that um since October we've been in and out and when I say we I do mean myself um and other Coalition members we've been in and out of make sure and Lake View high schools um we do a lunch table there so when we do the lunch table um we're either in the lunchroom or right outside the lunchroom and we asked substance use prevention questions as mental health questions um coping mechanism questions and if they get the questions right which they do because we help um we do give like free pens and highlighters um so we've done that throughout October for November or December and January actually yesterday I was at Lakeshore next week I'll be at Lake View so I would love to participate in South Lake as well um so I'll continue here with what I have to read you um we know that the schools play a crucial role in prevention teachers and staff see firsthand how stress pure influence and access to substances can affect students academic performance and overall well-being by working together we can ensure prevention proactive not just reactive Early Education and ongoing support helps students make healthy choices build self-confidence and stay connected to their school community at here we are always looking to strengthen Partnerships with school districts by offering programs that meet your students unique needs whether it's implementing prevention lessons providing parent education sessions or supporting student-led initiatives our goal is to make prevention part of the everyday culture within schools we also help schools use local data such as MiFi survey results to guide programming and address the most pressing concerns among youth in the community ultimately our vision is to create schools where prevention is embedded into the foundation of Student Success where every student feel supported valued and equipped with the skills to make healthy choices when schools families and Community organizations work together we create lasting impacts that extend far beyond the classroom I just want to thank you for your time allowing me to speak at hopefully you can go through the information that I provided my business card is in there you can always reach out to care themselves or you can reach out to me personally thank you so much you thank you Mr next card um if John Frye Coke anyway um I wasn't actually gonna bring the first 1 up but it's uh the kindergarten enrollment you see the series of events but there was actually telling people that 2 years in a row it's been part of the presentation yeah we're going to be developing the kindergarten we wanted my daughter to do it the last minute got away so as you guys are planning that maybe just take that off I don't think you write a couple of years telling parents you're going to do it and then kind of pulling it out in the last minute it it really left kind of a distrust not a huge thing that wasn't what I was coming to talk about but I saw it on the agenda here and I thought I'd throw that out there um the actual reason I came to talk today is um about the summer program that you guys um I don't know if anyone's been to the grocery store lately but um it's expensive um everything is out of control expensive um my wife and I we have to work 5 jobs just to to keep up you know that's that's like these days that's that's America um and the summer program you have is fantastic we've used it in the past 2 years it's great loves it can't wait to participate again there's 1 problem with it you guys wait till the last second to announce the dates I've already starting to get emails from uh summer programs or camp we did last year the Parks and Rec Department that you guys are not connected to the Parks and Rec Department they're going to be announcing they usually announce in February and have a million moment we would prefer my daughter to participate in the program that you guys offer vacation I don't like using free taxpayer funded you pay for it but that's a great thing that my taxes go for I want my daughter to participate in that we don't have money to throw away on um like extra for like for the the ones that actually extra out of pocket so it would be really great if you guys could get those dates out by maybe mid-February even if you don't have everything just let parents know the dates so we can start planning for the summer we do want to participate in the summer program or in the Parks and Rec program but it's it's real complicated you're our number 1 choice and by getting those dates out earlier but it would help a lot of parents it boost enrollment it would help the education of all the kids because it's it's a great educational program that number of different I think it was the stem options and robotic great stuff really love it if you could just get the dates out earlier that would be really that's it thank you thank you Mr pry okay so now thank you all for coming
