One of three elementary schools in the South Lake district, Koepsell Education Center opened in 1996. It is a School of Choice that follows the South Lake Schools’ curriculum but uses a different methodology – the teachings of William Glasser’s "Choice Theory," and a multiage configuration. Both philosophies are based on the importance of building meaningful relationships among students, teachers and staff. For more information on Choice Theory, read Dr. Glasser's book, “Choice Theory – A New Psychology of Personal Freedom,” and/or visit The William Glasser Institute website at www.wglasser.com
The South Lake School District Board of Education adopted a replacement anti-bullying policy with detailed measures on May 16, 2012. The law signed in December 2011, known as Matt’s Safe School Law, requires school district boards to adopt and implement policies prohibiting school bullying and have them in place by June 6, as well as report them to the Michigan Department of Education. South Lake’s Board of Education moved unanimously to adopt the revised anti-bullying policy which became effective immediately.
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2009-2010 educational progress for the South Lake Schools District. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal law and some requirements of state laws; however, our staff is available to help you understand this information. Please contact Pamela Balint or your school's principal for help if you need assistance.
