Avalon Students Read a Great Tale!

In March, Avalon Students and Staff celebrated Reading Month. March kicked off with an assembly, during which Avalon teachers performed a play based on the tale The Tortoise and the Hare. Several activities were planned throughout the month to promote literacy. These activities included Cozy Reading Day, a book fair, Mystery Reader Week, Extreme Book Makeover, a PTO sponsored spaghetti dinner, and Fairy Tale Character Day. On Cozy Reading Day students and teachers came to school dressed in their pajamas and spent time reading together surrounded by pillows and blankets. The book fair provided an opportunity for students and parents to purchase reading materials. During Mystery Reader Week each classroom had a guest reader visit to read to the students. Extreme Book Makeover gave students an opportunity to redesign the covers of some of the older books in the Media Center’s collection. The spaghetti dinner tantalized our taste buds and featured entertainer Gordon the Magician in his production The Mystery of the Lost Library Card. The celebration culminated with students and staff coming to school dressed as fairy tale characters. On Fairy Tale Character Day the students also enjoyed a video that featured Avalon students and staff participating in reading month activities.
